European Protected Species Licence (EPSL)
A European Protected Species Licence is a licence issued by Natural England to enable you to legally temporarily disturb a bat roost whilst undertaking works to your property.
This will include extensive survey effort undertaken by a licensed bat ecologist, liaison with Natural England, liaison with your planning officer, builder and architect.
It is not always necessary to obtain an EPSL should we discover bats/evidence of bats in your property - it entirely depends on the nature of works, the species of bat found and how the bats are using your property i.e. a nursery roost is deemed much more significant for the conservation of bats than say a feeding roost.
